Robo- Readers

The “Robo-readers” DO NOT have the same abilities as an individual reading the paper. As it states in source B, ‘les Perelman tells students not to waste time worrying about whether their facts are accurate, since pretty much any fact will do as long as it is incorporated into a well-structured sentence, “E-rater doesn’t care if you say War of 1812 started in 1945.”  Right there it says that these Robo-readers are ineffective, by having a sentence well-structured but, about a completely different topic is better than having a sentence poorly written about the topic given. That is not right. Later in source B it states that the e-rater prefers longer essays, a 716-word poorly written essay gets a 6, when a well-written essay of 567 words gets a 5.  Another point that says these e-raters, Robo-readers, are ineffective, allowing a paper with more words that are off topic to get a higher score, than a well-written paper with less but logical words to get a less score. The Last red flag is that the e-Rater ‘prefers’ larger words, ‘egregious’ is better that ‘bad’.  These e-Raters, Robo-readers, may grade 16,000 essays in 20 seconds but, if there are essays in there that are long, with no relevance to the topic getting a better score than a relevant, yet short essay, that isn’t right. An individual may only read five papers in an hour but, will score everything as it’s seen well-written gets a better score than a poorly-written paper.

What's Your Kid Getting From College?

What’s Your Kid Getting From College?

In this article this woman states,” I am a college graduate. I am also unemployed. I was lead[sic] to believe that college would insure me a job. I now have $40,000 worth of student debt.”  This is true. People go to college to get a job, a job to live off of for the rest of the working lives. It’s hard to get a job with just a high school diploma and now its even hard to get one with just a basic college diploma, not even talking about the bachelor or master degree you could be getting.  Every parent wants there kid to go to college, they may even save money since they were little just for this two to maybe eight year experience. Yet these kids going to college aren’t guaranteed a job, but they are guaranteed student debts unless there parents or they them self are filthy rich, but how often does that actually happen. College is starting to become a requirement to get a job, but yet, not guaranteed a job but guaranteed debts along the way. In my case alone, because it’s cheaper to go to a tech school instead of a 4 year school to get my basic classes I’m probably just going to go to a tech school to get my basic classes and then transfer to a 4 year school. At the time of going to the tech school I’ll be working to get money so I don’t need to get loans ect. Just to pay for college.

This is the article I used.

how i write

When I write, I let my imagination go. Letting what comes in my mind out on the paper. Right or wrong it’s out for all eyes. Floating on a cloud, under a tree, my mind brings me everywhere. Going on a ride with it, brings me to some interesting topics, not knowing how I got here or where to go just let it all out in the words on the paper. Could be a sentence long or even a book just saying what's on my mind is how i explore my writing abilities.

Coulrophobia- Fear of Clowns

It may be a common fear of people, not knowing who is really under the mask, or behind all that make-up. After watching the horror movie It, also a book by Stephen King. Has terrorized me since i was a little kid.  The summer after watching It , going to circus world with my family, just a casual, fun day.WOLX, a radio station, had a drawing going on. Put your name in a box and win a gift bag, with a CD and some other fun things. My mom thought it would be a good idea to put mine and my sisters names in the drawing, and it would be anounced at the big performance that day. We went to the big performance and before it started they took the box out that WOLX had put the names in for the winning people. There was two people the could win. First they called out a guys name, then they say Emily... I get so excited. they call my name. I run down there to get the prize, and realized a clown, one the looked just like It from the movie, was holding the gift bag. If i wanted the bag, I had to give the clown a hug. I was so scared what to do. I did it an dashed. Never again will i feel comfortable going to see clowns.

Sound & Fury

When watching Sound and Fury, I noticed some very interesting things. Starting off was the family tree, the parents of the Dad's their parents were not deaf, one of the sons were and the other wasn't the son that was married a woman that was deaf and had three deaf siblings, then the other brother married a woman and they had twins, one deaf and one not, the wife's parents were both deaf.
I believe that Heather, the daughter that was born into a family that was all deaf should have gotten the cochlear implant. One thought I had, in the case of Heather, if she did get it and her parents decided or she decided later in live she would prefer to be deaf, if they could just take the piece that is connected on the outside of her head and in her ear. After doing some research, I found out that if you get the implant the only way they will remove it is if there is a failure, protrusion, migration, or headaches it they are chronic. In the research I found they are talking about doing the surgery and completely removing it, but what if they just removed the stuff on the outside of the head would that be a huge problem? Another question I had was, the technology, if they get a better high definition implant to use will they go back and change the people with the implant that doesn’t have the technology as the newer ones? A final question I had, putting these cochlear implants on little kids and half of it is in their brain and the other half is on the outside of their head, would I cause a problem if they were playing and got caught on it?
I could be over thinking this concept of getting the implant and all of the potential problems that could come from it, but in agreeing to the implant for Heather, she could help her family communicate with people that didn’t know how to sign and be a personal translator for them. In that point, it helps not only her communicate with her friends that speak and hear things she would never be able to her, but helps her family. She may not sign outside of the house when she is with her friends, but I believe if she did end up getting the implant, she would still sign even though they say they would rather have her trying to speak.  One thought that came to mind, they say if she gets the implant they don’t want her signing anymore and have her try to speak. But if she lives in a house where no one can speak how would she communicate with her family? So that came to mind that in the place she was in she shouldn’t have gotten it. She wouldn’t be able to communicate with her family.
In the end, I believe Heather’s parents made the right choice not having her get the implant, but maybe farther down in life she should get it.

Where's the love By: Black eye peas

I chose the song where’s the love by the black eye peas. I think this song captures how America is now. In the first verse, People livin’ like they ain’t got no mamas i think the whole world addicted to drama, has so much to do with today’s society, there’re people that are walking away from their kids, and how the news shows explain situations it’s just publicizing the drama going around in the nation. In the second verse, Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism but we still got terrorists here living, after we captured Osama bin laden a lot of people thought we’d get out of the middle east within a short period of time, but that all happen May 2, 2011 and I’m sure there are still people being shipped out there for help. I know if we just took everyone out there right away there would be huge problems but, I don’t even think anyone is coming back.  If you listen to the song and just think about all of the drama in problems happing in society you’d think this song was just mad recently, because of how accurate it is.

presidential addresses.

The past 9 presidents from Obama to Kennedy had very simmilar common words said.  Obama,Johnson, George W. Bush's second speech both used nation as the most common word said obama using it a couple more time though. Almost all of the words that were most common were used in prior presicential addresses. These words mostly have the same meaning but different words, Ex. Nation, America.
